How to Pop Shove it (shuv it) on a skateboard

The pop shove it should be one of the first skateboard tricks that you learn. Some people can learn pop shove its the same day they learn how to ollie.  I will share the secrets that I used to land my first pop shuv-it.

What is a skateboard pop shove it?  A pop shove it is when the board does a 180 turn in the air and your body stays in the same position.  You can do a backside shove it or a front side shove it. I would recommend starting with a front side shove it, becuase you can see whats happening under your feet a lot easier. Watch the youtube video and see it done. Watching others do it is the best way to learn how too.

How To Pop Shove It Continued

The tail of your board is what your back foot is on when you ollie, and the nose of the board is in front of you. By the time the trick is done, your nose will actually be in the place were your tail once was. You should watch the video again to see what I'm talking about.

You should first learn this trick without the pop by just sliding the board across the ground under you. Once you can land that a couple times, than you can start trying to do it with the pop.

Because this is one of your first tricks you should actually try it standing still next to the grass.

Pop shove it trick tips

1) Place the ball of your back foot onto the center of your tail, and your front foot half way up your board to start out. Try different placements of your feet, because everyone is a little different in the way the skate.

2) Either moving or standing still pop the tail like you are gong to do an ollie, but instead of poping straight down, pop your foot at an angle forcing the front of the board to turn in the direction you want it. It's more of a scoop motion.

3) Make sure your front foot stays out of the way and also make sure your body is centered over the board. Catch it with your front foot as soon as the board is almost turned the whole way, and than place your back foot on it. the board will have a tendency in the beginning to land in front of you.

4) The hardest part is not bailing, becuase if you try it enough times without chickening out you will eventually learn it.  Try it 50 times a day until you get it!
